PTI plans to have elections within the party in the next two weeks.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to conduct new elections within the party soon, according to sources from a general body meeting held on Wednesday.

This decision follows a recent Supreme Court judgment declaring the previous intra-party polls of PTI, held before the upcoming general elections, as “illegal.”

The virtual party meeting had notable leaders like former PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Information Secretary General Umar Ayub, with the attendance of members from Quetta, Peshawar, Islamabad, and other places. During the meeting, a resolution regarding the internal party polls was discussed.

Additionally, a significant move during the meeting was the appointment of Rauf Hassan as the chief election commissioner of the party.

It’s important to note that the roads leading to the central media secretariat of PTI were reportedly blocked by the federal capital police. This increased police presence around the secretariat coincided with the conviction of PTI’s founder, Imran Khan, and his wife Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The court sentenced them to 14 years with rigorous punishment earlier on the same day.
