The convictions of Imran Khan in the Toshakhana and cipher cases have been challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Imran Khan’s legal team filed appeals in the Islamabad High Court against his convictions in the cipher and Toshakhana cases, with an additional appeal submitted in the sessions court related to the Iddat case.

Sardar Latif Khosa, a prominent lawyer, confirmed the filing of appeals on behalf of Khan.

The legal proceedings have attracted significant attention, as Khan, a prominent political figure in Pakistan, faces legal challenges in multiple cases. The appeals process will now move forward in the respective courts, with observers closely monitoring developments in these high-profile cases.

On January 30, the Official Secrets Act special court convicted Imran Khan in the cipher case, while the accountability court sentenced him and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case on January 31. In the cipher case, former prime minister Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were sentenced to 10 years in prison, while the Toshakhana case resulted in Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi being sentenced to 14 years imprisonment each.

Imran Khan was also disqualified from holding any public office for 10 years, and a fine of Rs787 million was imposed on each, which collectively totaled Rs158.30 billion. The cipher case revolves around a diplomatic cable allegedly mishandled by Imran Khan, with claims suggesting it contained a threat from the United States to remove him from office.

The prosecution had enough solid evidence to prove the crime, according to Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqernain. The Toshakhana reference case, on the other hand, involves the illegal use of government-owned luxury vehicles, which were lent to Imran Khan and others by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
