Omar Ayub Khan, a leader from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the party’s nominee for the prime minister’s position, expressed his dissatisfaction on Thursday, stating that he was denied permission to meet the party’s founder, Imran Khan, despite having a court order.
Addressing the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Omar Ayub mentioned that the jail superintendent rudely declined to follow the court order. Despite waiting for an hour and a half with other party leaders and lawyers, he was not granted access to meet Imran Khan. An anti-terrorism court (ATC) had previously granted permission to Omar Ayub to meet Imran Khan, but the jail chief refused to allow the meeting.
Omar Ayub, who successfully contested the election as an independent candidate supported by PTI, expressed his belief that the jail superintendent’s refusal amounted to contempt of court. He remarked that it appeared as if the jail chief held more power than the ATC judge.
Asad Qaiser, a PTI leader and former National Assembly speaker, raised concerns about the credibility of the incoming coalition government, led by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He alleged that the coalition was attempting to influence PTI-supported winners through various means. Asad Qaiser also criticized the prison administration for not allowing them to meet Imran Khan, stating that the PMLN was forming governments in Punjab and at the center by employing unethical tactics.
Asad Qaiser expressed his intention to speak with the superintendent of Adiala district jail to discuss the possibility of meeting Imran Khan and to address various ongoing alliances between PTI and other political parties.
