Today, Punjab and Sindh will choose their chief ministers.

In Punjab, Maryam Nawaz from the Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Rana Aftab Khan from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) will compete for the position.

In Sindh, the People’s Party (PPP) has nominated Syed Murad Ali Shah, while the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has put forward Ali Khursheedi. However, the Jammat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have announced a boycott of the election.

Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, could become the first woman chief minister of Punjab. The SIC initially nominated Mian Aslam Iqbal but later replaced him with Rana Aftab due to concerns about Iqbal’s potential arrest.

The swearing-in ceremony for the newly-elected Punjab chief minister is scheduled for 2 pm at the Governor’s House. In Sindh, the assembly will elect a new chief minister at 2 pm. The PPP has nominated Murad Ali Shah, while the MQM-P has presented Ali Khursheedi as its candidate. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jammat-e-Islami have announced a boycott, claiming the process is not valid due to alleged election theft.

The PTI president in Sindh, Haleem Adil Sheikh, stated that they would resist and fight legally and democratically to regain their mandate. The Jammat-e-Islami also announced a boycott of the process.
