Multan defeats Lahore as the tournament moves to the port city.

In the 14th clash of the Pakistan Super League 2024, Multan Sultans secured a significant victory over Lahore Qalandars with a margin of 60 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Multan set a target of 215 runs for Lahore to win, and despite a solid start by Lahore, they could only manage 154 runs in 17 overs. Usman Khan impressed with the bat for Multan, while Usama Mir played a crucial role with the ball, taking six wickets.

The next match in Lahore features Karachi Kings against Islamabad United at the National Stadium Karachi on Wednesday.

Lahore Qalandars began their innings well with Sahabzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman forming a strong opening partnership, but things took a turn after Fakhar’s dismissal in the sixth over. Rassie van der Dussen tried to anchor the innings, but wickets continued to fall. Usama Mir, the star bowler for Multan, claimed six wickets, becoming the first spinner to achieve this feat in the PSL.

Multan Sultans, while batting, reached a total of 214 with Usman Khan leading the charge. He contributed significantly, forming crucial partnerships with Reeza Hendrick, Tayyab Tahir, and Iftikhar Ahmed. Despite Usman falling just short of a century, his 96 runs played a vital role. The decision to limit overseas players to two due to injuries did not hinder Multan’s performance.

The PSL now moves to Rawalpindi and Karachi, with Karachi hosting the final on March 18. Multan Sultans led the table with five wins, followed by Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmis, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, and Lahore Qalandars. The tournament has seen exciting matches, with Lahore Qalandars facing challenges, and Multan Sultans showcasing a formidable team.

The second leg of the tournament will have 20 matches, with Karachi hosting 12, including qualifiers, eliminators, and the final. Multan Sultans, despite a loss to Peshawar Zalmis, maintain their top position. Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmis, and Karachi Kings follow, while Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars strive to improve their standings. The cricket extravaganza continues with more action and competition in the upcoming matches.
