The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is lending a helping hand to Pakistan to boost the cultivation of date palms with new and creative approaches.
Recently, the two countries signed an agreement in Abu Dhabi to encourage Pakistani farmers to expand their cultivation of date palms through innovative ideas. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) focuses on enhancing agricultural innovation and research, particularly in the development and promotion of various aspects related to date palm cultivation and its industry.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence of the UAE. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, and Dr Abdelouahhab Zaid, the general secretary of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective governments.
This MoU is expected to foster collaboration and the sharing of expertise between the UAE and Pakistan. It aims to provide Pakistani farmers with opportunities to enhance date palm cultivation through innovative ideas. As a trailblazer in this field, the UAE will offer technological support to Pakistan, leveraging the country’s rich topography, which holds significant potential for date palm cultivation.
Additionally, the MoU anticipates the organization of the First Pakistan International Date Palm Festival 2024, marking a significant step in promoting and celebrating advancements in date palm cultivation. This collaboration signifies a positive stride towards harnessing the agricultural potential of both nations and fostering mutual growth and cooperation.
