Today in Karachi, there was light to heavy drizzle, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s predictions were accurate.
The weather is changing, and more rain is expected over the weekend.
Areas like I. I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Sarjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, Korangi Industrial Area, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, and Manghopir Northern Bypass experienced rainfall on Friday.
To prevent inconvenience for residents during the rain, Mayor Murtaza Wahab shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) is taking steps. He mentioned the use of suction vehicles in various locations to clear rainwater, along with traffic police and wardens placed on major roads to help with traffic flow.
The Sindh government declared a rain emergency on Thursday and decided to keep offices in Karachi open for half a day due to the expected heavy rains. Evening classes in schools were also canceled for the day.
The Mayor explained that the half-day decision was a precaution, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to prevent inconvenience.
The Chief Meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Sardar Sarfraz, stated that heavy rain is likely in Karachi’s Gadap, Sarjani, and Malir. Light rain was recorded in some areas of Karachi. Sarfraz mentioned that there’s light rain in Gwadar, and a heavy spell of rain has already hit the city.
The weather expert expects the rain across Pakistan to continue until March 3. He warned of the possibility of heavy rain and snowfall in the upper regions for the next two days. Additionally, fishermen in Balochistan were cautioned to avoid going deep into the sea until the evening.
