Shehbaz Sharif took the oath as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan, administered by President Arif Alvi.
The ceremony was attended by various political leaders, including PPP’s Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, governors, chief ministers, and service chiefs.
The event started with the national anthem, followed by the swearing-in of the new Prime Minister. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived in the capital and was welcomed by Prime Minister Sharif. The PM greeted his niece warmly, and other notable figures, including Pervaiz Rasheed and Suleman Shehbaz, were also present.
Upon reaching the Prime Minister’s House, Shehbaz Sharif received a guard of honor from the armed forces, followed by an introduction to the PMO staff.
Notably absent was Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who expressed that it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to attend the oath ceremony of a prime minister who didn’t achieve office through a mandate.
On the previous Sunday, Shehbaz Sharif secured 201 votes and was elected as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan, defeating PTI-backed candidate Omar Ayub Khan, who received 92 votes. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq officially announced the results, declaring Shehbaz as the leader of the 16th National Assembly of Pakistan.
