Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to provide help to the people affected by heavy rains and floods.
He gave a significant financial aid package during this visit. Families of each person who lost their life received a cheque of Rs 2 million, and Rs 500,000 was given to each injured person in various districts, including tribal districts.
The event took place at the Governor’s House during the prime minister’s first visit to KP after taking office. Several important figures, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali, Members of the National Assembly, and other leaders, attended the distribution ceremony.
Recent heavy rains and floods caused the loss of 40 lives, including 27 children, and injured 62 individuals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The prime minister instructed authorities to assess damaged houses within five days and complete the compensation process by March 11, using helicopters for officials in remote areas.
Shehbaz Sharif announced Rs 700,000 for the repair of each destroyed house and Rs 300,000 for each partially damaged house. While acknowledging that financial compensation could not replace a human life, he emphasized its role in providing economic relief to affected families.
The prime minister recognized Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change and pledged full support to the victims’ families. He praised the efforts of various organizations and ensured ongoing federal assistance for complete rehabilitation. Shehbaz Sharif also stressed the importance of a comprehensive strategy to address climate change and called for improved coordination among relevant authorities during natural disasters.
