PHC has extended the ban on reserved seat lawmakers from taking their oaths in the National Assembly.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has extended the ban on lawmakers taking oaths for reserved seats in the National Assembly until March 13.

This decision follows a petition from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), supported by independently elected candidates affiliated with PTI but without their symbol.

The petition challenges the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) rejection of reserved seats for women and minorities for the party.

A larger bench, led by Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, is overseeing the proceedings. PTI’s representative, Babar Awan, expressed dissatisfaction, highlighting the upcoming presidential election and the party’s pending seat allocations.

Awan criticized the ECP for granting two reserved seats to parties with just one seat in the NA, calling it unwarranted favoritism.
