The IMF is prepared to send a team to Pakistan once the cabinet is formed.

The IMF’s Director of Communications, Julie Kozek, stated that the current priority is completing the ongoing Stand-By Program in Pakistan, scheduled to conclude in April 2024.

A mission for the second review of this program will be sent immediately after the formation of the new cabinet in Pakistan.

The focus is on ensuring economic stability in collaboration with the country’s new government. It has been reported that the newly-elected PML-N-led government intends to seek a fresh IMF loan program, estimated to be between $6 to 8 billion, with negotiations expected to begin soon.

The conditions for the IMF loan are anticipated to be stricter this time. Additionally, the PTI, founded by Imran Khan, has communicated to the IMF, urging consideration of the country’s political stability in future bailout talks. More details on this matter are expected to be revealed in due course.
