Asad Qaiser, a leader of the PTI, mentioned that if the Election Commission of Pakistan accepts their recent internal party elections and gives back their electoral symbol ‘bat’, the PTI might ‘join forces’ with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
In an interview with DawnNewsTV, when asked about the decision for PTI candidates to join the SIC, Qaiser explained that the party had discussions and had limited options available.
When asked if PTI-backed candidates who joined the SIC would stay in it, Qaiser said they would, but also mentioned the possibility of merging with it. He clarified that if PTI regains its electoral symbol after the recent internal party elections, both parties would merge and continue as PTI, instead of the current situation where PTI candidates are part of the SIC.
Regarding the legality of such a merger, he mentioned that the party was seeking advice from legal experts.
Regarding the Peshawar High Court’s decision upholding the ECP’s ruling of not assigning reserved seats to the SIC, Qaiser stated that the party plans to appeal to the Supreme Court.
