The Peshawar High Court’s Election Tribunal decided on Monday to review the eligibility of several politicians for the Senate elections.
They focused on the cases of PTI members Murad Saeed, Azam Swati, and Khurram Zeeshan, whose nomination papers were initially rejected by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The tribunal overturned these rejections, allowing the PTI leaders to participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for April 2nd.
During the hearing, there were concerns raised about the fairness of the rejections. Legal representatives argued that there wasn’t enough evidence to support the allegations of forgery or property concealment in the nomination papers. After reviewing the evidence, the tribunal ruled in favor of the PTI leaders, clearing their path to compete in the elections.
However, appeals from politicians of other parties, such as the Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, were rejected. This means their nomination papers were deemed valid, and they remain eligible to contest in the Senate elections.
Overall, the tribunal’s decision ensures a fair review of the candidate’s eligibility and upholds the democratic process for the upcoming elections.
