Justice Afridi disagreed with a recent court decision that overturned a previous ruling about disqualifying dishonest politicians.
He said that regular laws can’t cancel out decisions made by a constitutional court. In the previous ruling, it was decided that dishonest politicians couldn’t run for office, but a new law tried to change that.
Justice Afridi explained that the Constitution didn’t specify how long dishonest politicians should be banned, but the new law did.
He argued that changing this would need to be done through changing the Constitution, not just passing a new law.
He also said that the court shouldn’t interfere too much in politics, and should be careful when changing past decisions. He believed that going against the previous ruling would make the rule useless.
