Amid growing tensions, Asif stressed the urgent need to change how borders are managed between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He pointed out that despite Pakistan’s efforts, Kabul hasn’t effectively dealt with the issue. Asif criticized Afghanistan for allowing terrorist safe havens within its borders and ignoring the problem.
Asif highlighted the unique challenge presented by the Pak-Afghan border and said that without cooperation from Kabul, Pakistan has to enforce international laws along the border. He emphasized the importance of stopping terrorist movements across the border to improve relations between the two countries.
Recently, a leaked video showed an Afghan Taliban commander planning an attack on Pakistan’s security forces along the border. The video, originating from Afghanistan’s Dangar Algad area, revealed plans for a coordinated attack using rocket launchers. Pakistan has responded with airstrikes targeting terrorists in Afghan border regions, particularly groups like Hafiz Gul Bahadur and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), responsible for attacks in Pakistan.
The recent violence, including an attack on a security post in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, resulting in the deaths of seven Pakistani soldiers, has escalated tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan’s President vowed retaliation, stressing the country’s commitment to defending its borders. Islamabad is urging Kabul to take decisive action against terrorist elements within Afghanistan. Both nations must prioritize cooperation to combat the threat posed by extremist groups in the region.
