The Islamabad High Court has stopped the punishment of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case, which was handled by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The court will review the main appeals after Eid. This decision comes after the NAB prosecutor reviewed the case and determined it was a suspension of punishment. PTI leader Barrister Ali Zafar stated that the punishment related to Toshakhana has been paused, and they will discuss the main appeal later.
Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser remarked that Bushra Bibi should be released soon, indicating that more cases against the PTI founder might be dismissed similarly. Ali Muhammad Khan emphasized that lies don’t last forever, and the truth always comes out.
Previously, on January 31, Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Accountability Court sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 14 years in prison each. Khan was also banned from holding public office for 10 years, and both were fined Rs787 million each, totaling Rs1.58 billion.
According to the verdict, the fine will be collected as tax arrears, and the time spent in jail will be counted as part of the punishment. The detailed judgment revealed that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were found guilty of misusing their positions for financial gains. They were accused of embezzling billions of rupees from the national treasury by accepting valuable gifts from the Toshakhana during Khan’s tenure as prime minister.
The verdict highlighted that Khan and Bibi received 14 years of imprisonment each for misusing their positions and were fined Rs787 million each. It was revealed that they received 108 gifts from foreign leaders, including expensive Graff jewelry from the Saudi Crown Prince, which was undervalued and not properly declared. The court criticized Khan for his behavior during the trial and accused him of using delaying tactics.
