A woman in North Carolina is accused of taking $200,000 from a fire department.

Amanda Lamb, a volunteer firefighter from North Carolina’s Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department, is in legal trouble.

Investigators believe she stole over $200,000 from the department between July 2020 and November 2022. As a result, she’s facing charges of embezzlement of funds by a public officer.

This incident has angered North Carolina’s Insurance Commissioner, Mike Causey. He emphasizes the critical role volunteer firefighters play in keeping communities safe.

Causey expressed his disappointment that funds meant to protect lives and property were allegedly misused for personal gain.

In response to this situation, Causey has pledged to ensure that donations to fire departments are used appropriately.

He’s also encouraging all fire departments and rescue squads in North Carolina to strengthen their financial management practices to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
