Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan is worried that judges from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not being considered for promotion to the Supreme Court.
Justice Khan wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa expressing his concerns. He mentioned that out of four vacancies in the Supreme Court, only one was filled by a judge from Balochistan, leaving the rest unfilled.
Despite his seniority, eligibility, and availability, Justice Khan was not considered for the position. He expressed his disappointment and questioned why his candidacy was overlooked.
Justice Khan emphasized the importance of promptly filling vacancies to ensure the courts function effectively. He mentioned his 31 years of dedicated service and questioned the decision to appoint only one judge from Balochistan while leaving three vacancies empty.
He also pointed out the disparity in the number of judges from Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Supreme Court. Justice Khan sent copies of the letter to four senior judges of the Supreme Court for their consideration.
