The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has identified renowned international figures, Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, to lead their men’s national team in distinct cricketing formats to bolster their coaching staff.
Kirsten, a former South African cricketer with a decorated coaching career, will assume the role of white-ball coach. His expertise will prove invaluable in guiding the team through the fast-paced environment of One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Complementing Kirsten’s focus, Gillespie, a legendary Australian fast bowler, will take the helm as red-ball coach. His experience and tactical acumen will be instrumental in shaping Pakistan’s performance in the longer format of Test matches.
While an official announcement is pending the completion of formalities, this decision comes at an opportune moment. The team gears up for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, commencing on April 18th. Furthermore, the prestigious T20 World Cup scheduled for June in the United States and West Indies looms large.
These appointments address the vacancies created following the November 2023 reshuffle within the PCB setup. Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick transitioned to new roles within the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. Their coaching positions became vacant in January 2024.
To further strengthen the coaching structure, the PCB has opened applications for the position of Assistant Coach. Candidates with a minimum Level II coaching accreditation and proven experience at the international, franchise or domestic level are encouraged to apply by April 20th.
