Barrister Gohar from PTI says they won’t join with the Sunni Ittehad Council if they get their election symbol back.

The SIC, backed by independent candidates supported by PTI, joined forces after winning the February 8 elections.

This happened because Imran Khan’s party lost its electoral symbol, the ‘bat’. Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled that the SIC couldn’t claim reserved seats due to legal issues and not submitting the required party list for reserved seats.

Barrister Gohar, in an interview on DawnNewsTV, was asked about a potential merger with the SIC if PTI got its election symbol back. He mentioned that while SIC could call for a merger, being a religious party, they might not opt for it. PTI, as a democratic party, plans to maintain its platform. Gohar expressed disappointment over the delay in receiving the certificate from the ECP for the recently held intraparty elections.

He emphasized that once PTI receives its certificate and symbol, its members currently with the SIC would return to the party. Gohar mentioned this was part of the understanding with the SIC. He also mentioned PTI’s good relationship with the SIC and their mutual representation in Parliament.

Regarding a recent meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government at the Corps Commander’s House, Gohar downplayed its significance, suggesting it would have been better if held at the Chief Minister’s House. However, he stressed the importance of maintaining a working relationship, especially considering the security situation in the province.
