Will you have to pay to tweet on Elon Musk’s social media platform (formerly Twitter)?

Elon Musk, who now owns the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), might be making you pay a small amount of money to tweet.

This is to fight against fake accounts and automated programs (bots) that spread spam and other unwanted content.

They already tried this out in places like New Zealand and the Philippines, where new users had to pay a yearly fee of $1 to be able to post things, like tweets, replies, and even bookmarks.

Musk says this small fee is necessary because current technology can’t always tell the difference between real people and bots. He also says fake accounts take up usernames that real people might want.

We don’t know all the details yet, but for now, it seems like only new users would have to pay this fee. Existing users would still be able to tweet for free.
