Regaining Bollywood in the manner of Shah Rukh Khan

To guarantee the success of his most recent film, Dunki, Khan has imitated the strategies employed by the ruling BJP during its election campaigns.

Sudhir Kothari, a big fan of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, is getting ready for the first show of Khan’s new movie, Dunki. Kothari is so excited that he’s arranged a special celebration, including a cake, garlands, and drum players. He’s not alone—fans around the world are planning similar events to mark the first day of Dunki.

Sudhir Kothari, who goes by the nickname “The Only Fan SRK Follows,” has even written a book about his fandom. He turned his Twitter account into a fan club, and now more than 167,000 people follow his updates about Shah Rukh Khan.

Kothari has organized festivities at the movie theater, including decorations and performances by fans. They plan to celebrate by garlanding a picture of Shah Rukh Khan, setting off fireworks, and dancing. Inside the theater, they’ll cut a cake and share videos with reviews using hashtags like #DunkiReview to get others excited about the movie. Shah Rukh Khan, with millions of followers on social media, is expected to appreciate these celebration videos.

Other fan clubs, like SRK Universe, are also coordinating events in different countries to celebrate Dunki’s release. Fans are sharing plans and trying to make the first day of the movie a big success.

These fans, including Kothari, don’t get any money or free tickets for their efforts. They do it simply because they love Shah Rukh Khan and want his movies to do well.

Dunki is different from Shah Rukh Khan’s other movies this year, as it relies more on Khan’s star power. The movie will test if Shah Rukh Khan can continue his successful streak at the box office. Khan has spent a lot of time promoting the film, similar to how political parties run election campaigns in India.

This year has been fantastic for Shah Rukh Khan. After a break of four years and some not-so-successful movies, his two films, Pathaan and Jawan, became huge hits. Now, with Dunki, Khan is hoping for another big success. Fans and the movie industry are eager to see how the film performs and whether Shah Rukh Khan can continue his winning streak.

Shah Rukh Khan, a famous Bollywood actor, has undergone a significant change in 2023. Instead of his usual romantic roles, he is now taking on characters that focus on heroism, machismo, and nationalism. This shift is seen as a smart move to connect with the current sentiments in the country. What’s interesting is that Khan has managed to control his public image by avoiding traditional media and instead creating viral content through visits to religious places, attending cricket matches, and appearing at his daughter’s film premiere.

To promote his latest film, Dunki, Khan toured Dubai as the brand ambassador for a hospital but didn’t participate in events in India. Fans have become a crucial part of promoting his films, both online and offline. This strategy is supported by data-driven planning and a strong distribution plan led by Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan, who are directors of Red Chillies Entertainment.

Social media analysis using AI found that one of Khan’s tweets featuring a photo of Lord Ganesha received the highest number of likes. Khan’s online presence is filled with clips showcasing his humor, intelligence, and humility, creating an image of a caring father and husband. For his birthday celebration, Khan organized an event in Mumbai for a select group of fans.

Kenneth Hopkins, founder of BollyCon, believes that Shah Rukh Khan resonates with the aspirations of every Indian. Regardless of how well Dunki performs at the box office, Khan’s reinvention is considered a success, wrapping up a good year for Bollywood.

Dunki is set in Punjab, showcasing homes with distinctive water tanks shaped like planes, American milk trucks, or even the Statue of Liberty.

The movie “Dunki,” directed by Rajkumar Hirani and starring Aamir Khan, follows the story of Hardy, who takes his friends to London through a unique route. The film is expected to attract Indian audiences both at home and abroad, and Hirani is known for his box office success. However, there are both advantages and challenges for “Dunki.”

In 2014, Hirani directed “PK,” featuring Aamir Khan as an alien questioning blind faith in religious gurus. Despite being a major hit, “PK” has faced criticism from right-wing groups, accusing it of being anti-national. Additionally, in 2019, Hirani was accused of sexual assault, which he denied. “Dunki” is his first film since the accusation.

While there are occasional calls to boycott Hirani and his films, especially referencing “PK,” these issues haven’t garnered much attention from right-wing groups. Despite the controversy, the analysis shows that disapproval fades away after a few tweets. Multan TV HD inquired whether online interaction between Khan and Hirani was being minimized to avoid negative discussions, but there was no response from Red Chillies, Khan’s production house.
