The captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, sparked some excitement recently by suggesting India play arch-rivals Pakistan in a long match series (Test series) held in a different country (neutral country).
This proposal has caught the attention of several cricket stadiums in England, who are now interested in hosting such a series.
India and Pakistan haven’t played a long match series against each other in over a decade due to political tensions between the two nations.
Currently, they only face off in major cricket tournaments like the World Cup or Asia Cup. Rohit Sharma’s comment highlights his desire for more competition between the two cricketing powerhouses, even if it has to take place outside their home countries.
The Indian government, however, doesn’t currently allow bilateral matches (series between two countries) against Pakistan due to political reasons. So, while England’s stadiums are eager to host this potentially historic series, it remains to be seen if the political situation will allow it to happen.
