The judge in the “Cipher case” might be reassigned over misconduct claims.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi were found guilty in the cipher case and given 10 years of tough punishment each after a quick trial.

Justice Zulqarnain who sentenced them, is now facing scrutiny, and there’s talk of him being sent back.

This all started when PTI leader Aamir Masood Mughal asked for bail before getting arrested for his alleged involvement in a riot. He wanted his court hearing delayed until after the general elections on February 8th, when he was running as an independent candidate supported by PTI.

Justice Zulqarnain agreed and postponed the hearing until February 13th. Later, though, it was found out that the bail request had been denied earlier.

The higher court noticed this and asked Mr. Mughal and his lawyers to confirm what happened in the affidavits. They did, and even the investigation officer confirmed that the hearing was indeed postponed. The court didn’t make any big statements about Judge Zulqarnain’s actions yet but said they’ll look into it further.
