Six judges from the Islamabad High Court wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), who is also the head of a council that oversees judges.
In their letter, they claimed that intelligence agencies were interfering in their work and threatening them, which could prevent them from making fair decisions. They asked the Chief Justice for advice on how to handle this situation.
The Chief Justice took this matter very seriously. He decided to set up a special group of judges from the Supreme Court to investigate these claims. At first, there were seven judges in this group, but one decided to step down from the case later. The remaining six judges, led by the Chief Justice, will now hold a hearing on April 30th to look into these accusations.
This is a significant event because it highlights concerns about Pakistan’s court system’s independence. If judges feel pressured or threatened, they may be unable to make impartial decisions. The upcoming hearing will determine how these concerns should be addressed.
