Yasmin Rashid requested a judicial commission on May 9.

PTI leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid wrote a letter from her prison cell appealing to Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa for a judicial commission to investigate cases related to the events of May 9.

She expressed concern over PTI members, especially women, who had been imprisoned for over a year without receiving justice. Dr. Rashid believed that the prolonged detention and repeated arrests of PTI members were driven by political vengeance rather than a pursuit of justice.

Dr. Rashid criticized the government for frequently changing judges handling their cases and questioned the absence of police with case records and prosecutors during legal proceedings. She highlighted her imprisonment following allegations of delivering provocative speeches against state institutions on May 9, a day marked by widespread violence and clashes across Pakistan after the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.

The unrest on May 9 stemmed from the arrest of a former prime minister in a major corruption case, leading to protests and violent incidents nationwide. PTI workers and leaders were targeted, resulting in numerous arrests and ongoing legal battles. The military termed May 9 a “Black Day” due to attacks on key installations, and protesters faced trials under the Army Act. Dr. Rashid’s appeal underscored concerns over the fairness of legal proceedings and the treatment of PTI members involved in the events of May 9.
