French safety group urges men to drive more cautiously like women typically do.

A group in France that works on road safety launched a new campaign this week. They’re trying to make the roads safer by encouraging men to drive differently.

The idea might sound surprising at first. The campaign slogan is “Drive Like A Woman,” which you can see on posters in subway stations and online. The group, Victims and Citizens, explains that this isn’t meant to be a stereotype. They looked at data and found that men cause most traffic accidents in France – about 84% according to a government report. They also found that men are responsible for almost all (93%) of accidents involving drunk drivers.

Victims and Citizens want to change how men think about driving altogether. They hope the campaign will make men more cautious behind the wheel. Their message is clear: if you drive safely, like they say women typically do, then everyone will be safer on the road. This is especially important because thousands of people tragically die in car accidents in France every year, and the numbers might even be going up.
