Pakistan’s acting president just signed two new laws.
One law makes changes to how corruption cases are handled (NAB). This extends the time someone accused of corruption can be held before trial (from 14 to 40 days). However, it also shortens the punishment for officers who make up fake corruption cases against people (from 5 to 2 years).
The other law changes how election judges are chosen. Now, some retired judges can also be election judges, along with serving judges.
These changes are different from what the previous government did. Before, they made it harder to fight corruption and made election judges wait less time to decide cases.
