Supreme Court denies Mustafa Kamal’s apology.

The Supreme Court (SC) dismissed Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal’s request for immediate acceptance of his apology in a contempt of court case.

A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, heard the case against Kamal and Senator Faisal Vawda. Both had criticized the judiciary in press conferences. Kamal apologized, but Vawda refused.

The court issued show-cause notices to both leaders. Kamal’s lawyer asked the court to accept his client’s apology, but the Chief Justice emphasized the importance of respectful language.

The SC also criticized TV channels for airing the speeches and issued notices to them. The case has been adjourned till June 28, giving Vawda a week to respond.

After the hearing, Vawda stated he would accept the court’s decision but would not apologize as he believed he did nothing wrong. Kamal said he seeks an unconditional apology if his statements were considered contempt.
