Imran Riaz was arrested at Allama Iqbal International Airport while leaving for Saudi Arabia for Haj.
The arrest came after a Lahore court cleared him of fraud charges, where he was accused of not returning Rs0.25 billion borrowed from a complainant. Although the police sought a seven-day physical remand, the judge granted a one-day remand before discharging Riaz in the case. However, Riaz was immediately re-arrested outside the court for a separate incident involving interference with police at Sarwar Road, involving charges of rioting and obstructing public servants.

Riaz’s legal troubles began after his arrest following PTI founder Imran Khan’s detention on May 9, 2023. Despite his release from Sialkot prison on May 15, Riaz’s whereabouts remained unknown, prompting his father to file a kidnapping complaint. The Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered multiple agencies to locate Riaz, with various court hearings revealing little progress. Riaz was eventually found and released on September 25, after more than four months missing. Earlier this year, he was also arrested in a graft case related to the Dhrabi Lake contract but was later granted bail.
