Pakistan Railways has added large-capacity freight wagons to its fleet.

Pakistan Railways has recently enhanced its fleet by introducing 40 new high-capacity freight wagons, manufactured locally with the assistance of Chinese technology.

These wagons, built to international standards, can carry loads up to 70 tonnes and operate at speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour. The induction ceremony was inaugurated by Pakistan Railways CEO Aamir Baloch, who highlighted plans to add 820 more wagons to the fleet by the end of the fiscal year 2025-26. This initiative not only aims to bolster domestic production capabilities but also forecasts annual savings of Rs9 billion in foreign reserves and increased revenue.

In another move to benefit passengers, Pakistan Railways recently announced a 25% reduction in train fares for the Eidul Adha 2024 celebrations. This fare cut applies to all regular passenger trains, excluding Eid specials, and is intended to facilitate travelers during the festive period. The discounted fares are applicable only for bookings made during the specified Eid days. This reduction follows an earlier fare adjustment in May 2024, demonstrating Pakistan Railways’ ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and affordability for its passengers across various service classes.
