UN says ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan imprisoned without reason.

A United Nations human rights working group has declared that former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is being unpredictably imprisoned without legal justification, which they believe is aimed at disqualifying him from future political roles.

The group, composed of independent experts, insists that Khan should be released promptly and provided with compensation according to international law.

They criticize his detention as part of a larger campaign of repression against Khan and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, citing arrests, alleged torture of party members, and disruptions of their rallies leading up to the 2024 elections.

Despite these allegations, Pakistan’s government has not yet responded to the UN’s opinion.
