Justice Aalia Neelum was appointed as the first woman chief justice of the LHC.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) unanimously chose Justice Aalia Neelum as the new Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Justice Aalia Neelum will hold the position until November 11, 2028. She is set to become the first female chief justice of LHC and is well-regarded for her expertise in criminal law.

Earlier, during its last meeting, the JCP discussed Justice Neelum’s elevation as the next LHC CJ. Both government representatives—the Attorney General for Pakistan and the Law Minister—supported her nomination.

Born on November 12, 1966, Justice Aalia Neelum obtained her LL.B. from the University of the Punjab in 1995 and began practicing as an advocate in 1996. She was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2008. Since joining the LHC bench in 2013, she has delivered many notable judgments on various legal issues.

Justice Aalia has a strong academic background, including a Master’s degree in Political Science and additional diplomas in law-related fields. She has also contributed significantly to gender-based violence courts during her judicial career.
