Sunak admitted defeat and congratulated Starmer. Despite the win, polls show little enthusiasm for Starmer, and he faces many challenges like high taxes, debt, and struggling public services. Starmer has scaled back some plans and promised not to raise taxes for working people. He acknowledged that changing the country won’t be easy but pledged to start immediately.
Nigel Farage’s right-wing Reform UK party hurt Conservative support, winning some seats. Farage said he plans to fill the gap in centre-right politics. Starmer aims to improve relations with the European Union but won’t rejoin. He also promised to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.
The Labour victory is a big turnaround from three years ago when the party was struggling. A series of Conservative scandals weakened their support, leading to Labour’s commanding poll lead and eventual victory.
