ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released the findings of the 7th Population and Housing Census-2023, revealing that 29.75% of Pakistan’s population is unmarried.
The census results highlight several fascinating aspects of the country’s demographic landscape. Pakistan’s population has surged to over 241 million (241,499,431), showing a growth rate of 2.55% since 2017 when it was 207,684,626. This rapid growth makes Pakistan’s population increase one of the highest in the region and the world.
The average household size in Pakistan is now 6.30. If the current growth rate persists, there are concerns that the population could double by 2050.
Breaking down the marital status of the population, the census found that 29.75% of people are unmarried. In contrast, a significant 65.97% of the population is married. Additionally, 3.78% of the population are widows, 0.35% are divorced, and 0.15% have opted for separation.
The age distribution data is also revealing: 79% of the population is under 40 years old, with 40.56% under the age of 15. Citizens aged between 15 and 29 years make up 26% of the total population.
These insights provide a comprehensive overview of Pakistan’s demographic trends, highlighting the need for policies to manage the rapidly growing and predominantly young population.
