Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Challenge Toshakhana Case Arrests at Islamabad High Court

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have approached the Islamabad High Court to contest their arrests in the Toshakhana case.

Filed by Barristers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, the petitions argue that the arrests are politically motivated and lack legal basis. They claim that the federal and Punjab governments are fabricating cases to keep Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in custody as a form of political retribution.

According to the petitions, the arrests occurred while judicial notices summoning the accused were still under consideration, suggesting ulterior motives. They accuse political opponents of misusing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for personal vendettas, noting that higher court rulings state that mere nomination in a case does not justify immediate arrest.

The petitions request the court to declare the arrests unlawful and order the immediate release of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Additionally, they seek a directive requiring any future arrests to receive prior approval from the Islamabad High Court.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s legal team has named the NAB Chairman, NAB Director General, and other officials as respondents. They emphasize that both have cooperated fully with investigations, making their arrests unnecessary. The petitions argue that the arrests violate high court orders and exemplify bad faith actions by political adversaries.

The court has been urged to protect Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi from politically motivated arrests in the future, ensuring that any such actions require judicial authorization.
