ISLAMABAD – The federal government has announced a new 60-day timeframe for issuing passports to overseas Pakistanis, addressing delays faced by applicants in normal and urgent categories.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who also serves as the Deputy Prime Minister, stated that passports will be issued within 60 days to overseas Pakistanis. During a meeting, the minister discussed the issue of timely passport issuance, with the Interior Secretary and the Director General of Immigration and Passports also in attendance.

Additionally, it was decided to reverse a previous notification that had suspended passport issuance to overseas Pakistanis seeking asylum in foreign countries. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Interior had decided not to issue passports to Pakistanis seeking asylum on political or other grounds, citing national security concerns.

This decision has now been revoked, ensuring that overseas Pakistanis will receive their passports within the newly established 60-day period.
