ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted heavy rainfall and potential flooding in the upper regions of Pakistan. According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center, strong monsoon currents are expected from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
The NDMA announced that these currents could bring significant rainfall to various parts of the country over the next 24 hours, continuing until July 27. Thunderstorms and rain are also expected in coastal areas of Sindh tonight, including Karachi, Hyderabad, and surrounding areas.
In addition, heavy to moderate rainfall is forecasted for:
- Southern Punjab: Rohi, Rahim Yar Khan
- Azad Kashmir: Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan
- Gilgit Baltistan
The NDMA urges the public to take precautions against potential flooding and landslides. They warned of possible floods in urban areas, rising water levels in streams and rivers, and landslides in mountainous regions.
Emergency Response Teams have been alerted and resources mobilized to ensure a quick response to any emergencies. Tourists are advised to avoid traveling to affected areas during this period, and the public is encouraged to stay informed through the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile app and weather updates.
