LAHORE—The recent alleged assault on comedian Tahir Anjum by PTI worker Anila Riaz has turned out to be a planned stunt, according to a police investigation.
The incident occurred a few days ago near the Punjab Assembly when Riaz attacked Anjum, tearing his clothes. Anjum, who is the President of the Punjab chapter of the PML-N Culture Wing, claimed the attack was due to derogatory remarks he made about PTI founder Imran Khan.
Following the altercation, police arrested Riaz and launched an investigation. The probe revealed that both Anjum and Riaz had been in contact via mobile phones for days and that Riaz had visited Anjum’s house before and after the incident.
Reports indicate that the duo met at a hotel a day before the incident to finalize their plan to stage the fight. Anjum allegedly sought to gain popularity within his party, while Riaz was promised help with traveling abroad.
The staged incident highlights the lengths some individuals will go to for personal gain, undermining genuine political discourse.
