ISLAMABAD – On Friday, Pakistan’s National Assembly passed a resolution unanimously condemning the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh and decrying the ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza.

Resolution Details

The resolution, which received support from both government and opposition lawmakers, expresses deep condolences to Haniyeh’s family and demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar initiated the motion to suspend the day’s agenda to address the assassination of Haniyeh.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar presented the resolution, highlighting the dire situation in Gaza, where Israeli forces have reportedly caused significant casualties, with over 40,000 Palestinians killed.

Prime Minister’s Statement

In his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for accountability for Haniyeh’s assassination, stating that it is a serious blow to peace efforts. He emphasized that the entire Pakistani nation and the Muslim Ummah are deeply affected by the death of Haniyeh.

Prime Minister Sharif condemned the Israeli actions as extreme and unacceptable, asserting that Pakistan stands against terrorism in all its forms, including extrajudicial and extraterritorial killings. He denounced the brutalities committed by Israel against innocent Palestinians, claiming that Israel’s actions have gone beyond the bounds of acceptable conduct.

Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran, Iran, where he was attending the inauguration of President Masoud Pezeshkian. The assassination has intensified international concern and condemnation over the violence in Gaza and the broader Middle East conflict.
