Security forces successfully eliminated three terrorists in North Waziristan’s Razmak area during an intelligence-based operation, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Friday.
On August 16, 2024, the operation was launched in response to reports of terrorist presence in the area. According to the ISPR, a heavy exchange of fire took place between the security forces and the terrorists, resulting in the deaths of three militants, while one was injured.
The security forces also recovered weapons and ammunition from the scene. These terrorists were involved in attacks against security forces and the targeted killings of civilians.
The operation is still ongoing as security forces continue to search the area to ensure that no other terrorists are hiding nearby. The ISPR emphasized that the forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism from the country.
This operation follows other recent actions by security forces in the region. Just a day earlier, seven terrorists were killed and five others wounded in an operation in the Kurram district. Last week, four soldiers lost their lives, and six terrorists were killed in a similar encounter in South Waziristan.
Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist activities, particularly in regions bordering Afghanistan, such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the second quarter of this year alone witnessed 380 fatalities and 220 injuries due to violence.
In response to the growing threat, the federal cabinet approved Operation Azm-e-Istehkam in June, a national counter-terrorism initiative aimed at rooting out terrorism across the country.
