ISLAMABAD – The arrest of former ISI Director-General Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed has sparked discussions about possible connections with former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Senator Irfan Siddiqui from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) recently suggested that Imran Khan might face a military trial following Hameed’s arrest.

Senator Siddiqui explained that this situation is linked to the events of May 9. He claimed that Faiz Hameed had a personal stake in stopping General Asim Munir from becoming the army chief and accused former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar of destabilizing the country to remove Nawaz Sharif from power.

Siddiqui warned that if it is proven that Faiz Hameed conspired with Imran Khan, Khan could be tried under the Army Act. He emphasized that any such trial would follow the existing laws, without needing new legislation.

Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has accused the authorities of using Faiz Hameed against him. Khan expressed concerns that Hameed might testify against him in military courts, accusing him of being involved in the May 9 events. He dismissed these accusations as baseless and criticized the justice system, comparing it to a banana republic. Khan also accused the current government of orchestrating a regime change against PTI but expressed confidence that he would be vindicated in court.

Khan also commented on recent statements suggesting that former General Bajwa acted in his own interest, and reaffirmed his belief in PTI’s resilience despite the challenges.
