In a major rally in Islamabad’s Sangjani area, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have given the government a two-week ultimatum to release Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned. The rally, marked by clashes with police, saw PTI leaders including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur threatening direct action if Khan is not freed.
The rally, which had been rescheduled twice and faced security challenges, was held under a no-objection certificate (NOC) despite roadblocks and high security measures. PTI leaders demanded Khan’s immediate release and warned of potential violence if their demand is not met. They also criticized the military and current government over the numerous cases against Khan.
Despite logistical issues and a 7 pm deadline imposed by the Islamabad district administration, the rally continued and resulted in clashes between supporters and police. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar emphasized Khan’s leadership and criticized efforts to obstruct the event.
Imran Khan, who has been in prison since August 5, 2023, remains a significant political figure. Although he has faced severe sentences, recent legal victories and a UN panel’s ruling have not led to his release. Khan’s influence persists through media and social media, with his supporters and party leaders continuing to advocate for his freedom.
