ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has pledged to overhaul Pakistan’s power sector to boost efficiency and service quality.
During a recent meeting with K-Electric’s leadership, including Chairman Mark Skelton and CEO Moonis Alvi, Aurangzeb discussed plans to reform the sector. Key changes include restructuring the boards of power distribution companies (Discos) by adding private sector experts and reducing government representatives. This is aimed at enhancing board effectiveness and overall service quality.
The meeting focused on K-Electric’s strategy for meeting Karachi’s growing energy needs and its shift towards renewable energy sources to provide more affordable power. K-Electric outlined its plans to integrate renewable energy into its operations to reduce electricity costs for Karachi residents.
Aurangzeb emphasized the government’s commitment to involving the private sector in state-owned power companies and mentioned the ongoing privatization of three Discos as part of this effort. He praised K-Electric’s investment and expansion plans and promised support for its transition to renewable energy and the use of domestic resources to lower energy costs.
