Pakistani Woman Sentenced to Death Over Social Media Blasphemy Case

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani court has sentenced a woman to death for blasphemy over a social media post. Judge Afzal Majoka of Islamabad’s special court found her guilty of sharing content considered insulting to Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In addition to the death sentence, the court fined her Rs300,000 and gave her a 7-year prison sentence under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). She also faces an extra Rs100,000 fine under Section 11 of the PECA Act.

The court ordered her execution by hanging, but she has the right to appeal the decision within a month.

Pakistan has strict blasphemy laws, with severe punishments for offenses against Islamic figures. These laws often lead to accusations that result in mob violence and extrajudicial killings.
