LAHORE: US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Bloom visited former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz at the Jati Umra residence on Monday. Maryam Nawaz welcomed the ambassador, who was also joined by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal.

During the meeting, they discussed the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States. This visit follows a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Ambassador Bloom, where they reviewed recent developments in Pak-US relations.

This comes just two days after the US House of Representatives passed a resolution encouraging Pakistan to maintain democratic institutions and uphold human rights. The resolution received significant support, with 368 members voting in favor and only seven against.

The House resolution urged Pakistan to respect the rights to due process, freedom of press, assembly, and speech. It condemned any actions that suppress public participation in democracy, such as harassment and arbitrary detention.
