Security forces successfully neutralized eight terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The operation was launched based on reports of terrorist activity in the area. An intense firefight ensued between the security forces and the terrorists, resulting in eight terrorists being killed, ISPR confirmed.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site, with the ISPR stating that the terrorists were involved in attacks against security forces and innocent civilians.
Sanitization of the area is ongoing to ensure no further terrorist elements remain. Security forces are committed to eliminating terrorism from the country, the statement added.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for their swift action, acknowledging their bravery in protecting the nation. He expressed his appreciation on social media, saying, “Salute to the brave soldiers of the security forces.”
Pakistan has seen an increase in attacks targeting security personnel, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire agreement in 2022. Recent operations have seen multiple terrorist attempts foiled, and several soldiers martyred while defending the nation.
