RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi has reported its highest number of dengue cases this year, with 110 positive cases in a single day, bringing the total to 960 since January 2024. Of these, 54 cases were from Pothohar Town (Peri Urban).
According to the District Health Authority’s latest update, 185 dengue patients are currently receiving treatment in local hospitals. In the last 24 hours, 17 new cases were reported from Rawalpindi Cantonment Board areas.
In response to the rising numbers, the District Health Authority has ramped up its efforts, focusing on public awareness and enforcing dengue prevention measures. Dr. Asif Arbab Niazi, CEO of the Health Authority, is personally leading these initiatives.
Dr. Niazi visited bus stands at Pirwadhai, distributing mosquito repellents to passengers to promote dengue prevention. He also organized a car rally with vehicles displaying dengue awareness posters, which drove through residential areas.
In a brief conversation with APP, Dr. Niazi warned that despite fewer cases overall this year, dengue remains a significant threat, especially to younger people. He urged citizens to follow dengue safety protocols and seek medical help if they experience fever symptoms.
