ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT MM1, has successfully become operational under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). This achievement marks a significant milestone in the country’s space and digital advancements.
PAKSAT MM1 is expected to revolutionize Pakistan’s communication infrastructure, benefiting various sectors including IT, television broadcasting, internet services, and tele-education. It will also help improve internet access in remote areas, supporting the government’s Digital Pakistan vision.
The satellite’s success follows Pakistan’s rise by 14 points in the United Nations E-Governance Development Index, where it now ranks 136, compared to 150 in 2022.
Launched on May 30 by Pakistan’s National Space Agency (SUPARCO), PAKSAT MM1 entered its orbit on June 5 at an altitude of 38,786 km above the earth, positioned at 38.2° East. Equipped with advanced communication technology, it promises faster internet services across the country.
After reaching orbit, the satellite’s solar panels began functioning, and various tests are being conducted to ensure its optimal performance, according to a SUPARCO spokesperson.
