The Sindh government and federal authorities have agreed to begin the M6 Motorway project from Karachi to Sukkur, rather than starting it from Hyderabad. This decision aims to facilitate port traffic from Karachi as well. Both governments are considering a public-private partnership (PPP) or a joint consortium to carry out the construction.
The agreement was reached during a meeting at the CM House, attended by Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, CM’s Secretary Raheem Shaikh, Secretary Works Mohammad Ali Shaikh, and officials from the National Highway Authority (NHA).
The proposed M6 Motorway will span approximately 306 kilometers and feature six lanes, providing a high-speed, toll-based route for efficient travel between Karachi and Sukkur. The original plan for the M6 involved starting from Hyderabad, but challenges in previous PPP arrangements caused delays. The new plan repositions the starting point in Karachi to enhance connectivity for both cities.
The Sindh government also discussed forming a joint partnership with the federal government for construction and requested the federal minister to hand over the Lyari Expressway for heavy traffic. Additionally, the Sindh Chief Minister highlighted the need to expedite the Gharo to Keti Bundar road project, which has faced significant delays since 2015.
